Sneak peek at Postmatic 2: A focus on authors (Plus we’re on Torque!)

Postmatic is growing up, and finding itself on ever-larger sites, many of which have multiple authors. In Postmatic 2 we are taking steps to put the spotlight on authors, as well as give them the tools they need to keep the conversation going.

Author-based post subscriptions

Did you know it’s always been possible to subscribe to just an author in Postmatic? It’s true. The native subscribe widget and optins are context-aware to allow users to subscribe to just the authors they want. This happens if the widget/optin is placed on the author archive page. We’ve built new filters into Postmatic 2 to allow for author subscriptions from the single post screen as well.

Author information in the new post header

There is also a filter to enable author information below the headline in new post emails. Very handy for multi-author sites or the occasional guest post. It looks like this:

Support for a variety of author box plugins

Author box plugins are mighty handy. They usually output a box below the post to display the author bio, social media info, and previous posts. We’ve worked with the three most popular author box plugins in the repo to make sure the author box displays in your emails as well:

  • Better Author Bio

Comment moderation for authors as well as administrators

And in a nice touch for sites with many authors, some of whom may not even have a proper login, authors can moderate comments on their posts directly from email. Both the site admin as well as the author will get the moderation notice. Whoever takes action first wins.

See it in action on Torque

All this leads to us being just delighted that one of our favorite WordPress news sites is now running both Postmatic and Epoch.

Torque is published by WP Engine and features WordPress news and tips from the best minds in the industry. Prior to making the switch Torque was using Disqus for commenting. It’s a nice win for us.
